Story Improvements, Editor Enhancements & Search Fixes

Happy New Year, y'all! January’s update focuses on polishing the Stories experience, improving the editor, and delivering a healthy serving of bug fixes.

📖 Stories: Covers, Styling & Better Controls

Stories have received several quality-of-life upgrades:

• You can now upload cover images for stories, which are displayed in the story list

• Improved visual styling for stories to make them easier and more pleasant to read

• Chapter publishing is now controlled by a clear button instead of a potentially confusing slider

• Universes can now disable the Stories tab entirely (useful for single-universe sites) if stories aren’t relevant there

Together, these changes make stories feel more intentional and better integrated, while still remaining optional.

✍️ Editor Improvements

The Tiptap editor continues to improve:

• Added support for text alignment (left, center, right)

• Fixed several edge cases around content updates to ensure changes are only counted when something actually changed

🔍 Search, Uploads & Miscellaneous Fixes

We’ve also addressed a wide range of bugs and inconsistencies:

• Fixed the Create Item page showing “New Undefined” when no type was selected

• Search matches within an item body text is now case-insensitive

• Search now only considers the actual text content, not editor markup

• Fixed items without tags being unsearchable

• Fixed items with shortnames starting with a number getting stuck in the Needs Review section

• Fixed user profile image uploads failing due to incorrect size limits

• Cleaned up broken checkboxes in notification settings
