Vivi Blackwood is a tough girl in a tough world - born on the streets of Bhadh, her childhood was a buffet of scamming, scavenging, and petty theft - and she feels right at home on board the Ajdaha with its captain: Aenwyn, the merchant-occasionally-turned-pirate. But when one of Aenwyn's pirate adventures goes awry, Vivi and her friend Owen are sent on a thrilling run for their lives, along with the sorry band of renegades they happen to pick up along the way. As their fight for survival continues, they accidentally find themselves wrapped up in the goings-on of the world around them, both magical and political-and Vivi finds herself working with people she could never have dreamed of even speaking kindly to in the past.
