Main Text
Stories let you write and publish fiction set in your universe, one chapter at a time. Every story belongs to a universe, so your readers can follow links from the story straight into your worldbuilding.
Enabling Stories
Stories need to be switched on for each universe. On the universe's Edit page, turn on Stories enabled. The universe will then have a Stories tab.
Creating a Story
You need Write access to a universe to create a story in it. Click New Story on the universe's Stories tab, or go to the Stories page from the navigation bar. Fill in:
Title
Shortname — used in the story's URL. Filled in automatically from the title.
Universe — the universe the story is set in.
Drafts are visible to — either Only you, or Universe authors (everyone with Write access to the universe). This is handy if you'd like your co-authors to read your drafts.
Editing a Story
On the story's page, click Edit to change its details:
Title and Shortname. Changing the shortname will break existing links to the story, and kick out anyone currently reading it or editing its chapters.
Show drafts to authors of universe — the same setting as "Drafts are visible to" above.
Cover Image — click Upload Cover to add a cover, which is shown on the story's card. Covers are resized and cropped to a 512×800 portrait.
Story Summary — a short blurb of up to 2000 characters, shown on the story's page.
Only the story's author can edit or delete it.
Writing Chapters
On the story's page, click New Chapter to add a chapter and open it in the chapter editor. Chapters are written with the rich text editor, so you can use @-links to link to items in your universe.
New chapters start out as drafts. When a chapter is ready, click Publish Chapter to make it visible to readers. You can click Unpublish Chapter to turn it back into a draft.
Chapter Order
Drag and drop chapters on the story's page to reorder them. Published chapters always come before drafts, so publishing a chapter moves it to just after the last published chapter.
Reading Stories
The Stories page in the navigation bar lists stories you can read. A story becomes visible to everyone once it has at least one published chapter — even if the universe it belongs to is private. This lets you share your stories publicly while keeping your worldbuilding notes private.
Readers can move between chapters with the Previous Chapter and Next Chapter buttons, and leave comments at the end of each chapter.
