Main Text
Item bodies, notes, story chapters, and universe home and public pages are all written with Archivium's rich text editor. It works like a word processor: select text and use the toolbar, or use the keyboard shortcuts below.
The Toolbar
Button | What it does |
|---|---|
Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Code | Format the selected text. |
Clear Formatting | Remove formatting from the selected text. |
Table of Contents | Insert a table of contents (see below). |
Insert Table | Insert a table (see below). |
Heading | Turn the current line into a heading. While the cursor is in a heading, buttons for Heading 1–6 appear next to it so you can change its level. |
Align Left / Center / Right / Justify | Change text alignment. |
Link / Remove Link | Add or remove a link (see below). |
Bullet List / Numbered List | Start a list. |
Insert Image | Insert an image (see below). |
Embed Video | Embed a video, such as a YouTube video. |
Code Block | Insert a block of preformatted code. |

Blockquote | Turn the current block into a quote. |
Horizontal Rule | Insert a dividing line. |
Undo / Redo | Undo or redo your last change. |
Markdown Shortcuts
If you're used to markdown, many markdown shortcuts work as you type:

| A bullet list |
| A numbered list |
| A blockquote |
| Bold text |
| Italic text |
|
|
| A link |

| A table of contents |
Linking to Other Items
Linking items together is one of the most powerful parts of Archivium. Links make it easy for readers to explore your world, and show up on the linked item as "Linked to by N items".
@-Mentions
The quickest way to link to an item is to type @. A search popup appears listing items in your universe — keep typing to narrow it down (it searches titles and tags), use the arrow keys to pick one, and press Enter or Tab to insert the link.
The Link Button
You can also select some text and click Link. Either paste a web address into the Link field, or pick an item from Link to item. Click Save to apply the link, or clear the field to remove it.
Item Link Syntax
Links to items use the item's shortname with an @ in front of it, instead of a web address:
Link | Goes to |
|---|---|
| An item in the same universe. |
| An item in another universe. |
| A specific tab of an item. |
| A specific heading on an item. |
You can use these anywhere a link is accepted, including [text](@item-shortname) typed directly into the editor.
Links to items that don't exist yet are shown as broken links. Following one lets you create the item. The universe Stats page lists all of your universe's broken links.
Images
Click Insert Image to add an image. You can either:
Enter an image's web address in the Link field, or
Pick one of the item's gallery images under Link to gallery image.
Videos
Click Embed Video and enter the video's address. YouTube links are converted to embedded players automatically.
Tables
Click Insert Table to add a 3×3 table with a header row. While the cursor is inside a table, extra buttons appear next to it:
Button | What it does |
|---|---|
Add Row Below | Adds a row under the current row. |
Add Column Right | Adds a column to the right of the current column. |
Delete Row / Delete Column | Removes the current row or column. |
Merge or Split Cells | Merges the selected cells into one, or splits a merged cell back apart. |
Toggle Header Row | Turns the table's header row on or off. |
Delete Table | Removes the whole table. |
Asides
An aside is a box set off from the main text, useful for sidebars, quick facts, or an infobox at the top of an article. Click Aside in the toolbar to wrap the current block in an aside, or type @aside followed by a space at the start of a line.
Table of Contents
Click Table of Contents (or type @toc on an empty line) to insert a table of contents. It lists the headings in the document as a numbered list of links, and updates automatically as you add, remove or rename headings.
The table of contents is scoped to where you put it:
A table of contents at the top level lists every heading in the document.
A table of contents placed underneath a heading lists only the subheadings in that section.
Every heading can also be linked to directly. The link anchor is the heading text in lowercase, with spaces replaced by dashes and punctuation removed — so a heading called "Early Life" can be linked to with #early-life.
