Main Text
This page covers creating your account, finding your way around, and managing your profile and settings.
Creating an Account
Click Create Account in the top right corner (or on the home page) and fill in:
Username — this is what you'll log in with, and how other users will find you.
Email — used for verifying your account, password resets and (optionally) notifications.
Password
You'll need to tick the box agreeing to the privacy policy and terms of service. There is also an optional box for receiving email updates about Archivium.
Username Rules
Usernames must:
Be between 3 and 32 characters long.
Only contain letters, numbers, underscores (
_) and hyphens (-).Not be only numbers.
Not contain consecutive dashes or underscores.
Not start or end with a dash.
A few names (such as admin and support) are reserved. The form checks your username as you type, so you'll know right away if it isn't allowed.
Verifying Your Email
After signing up you're logged in straight away and a verification link is sent to your email. Until you click it, most pages will show an Access Denied message asking you to verify your account. If the email never arrived (or the link has expired), click Request a new verification link — you can do this once a minute.
Logging In
Log in with your username (not your email) and password. Your session lasts for a week and is renewed automatically while you keep using the site.
Forgot Your Password?
Click Forgot password? on the login page and enter your account's email address. You'll receive a reset link that is valid for 7 days. Resetting your password logs you out on all devices.
Finding Your Way Around
The navigation bar at the top of every page contains:
Link | What it's for |
|---|---|
Home | Your dashboard — see Home Page and Notifications. |
Search | Search across universes, items and your notes — see Search. |
Contacts | Your list of contacts (see below). |
Universes | All universes you have access to — see Universes. |
Stories | Stories written in universes you can see — see Stories. |
Notes | Your notes — see Notes. |
News | Archivium news and feature announcements. |
Help | This wiki! |
Clicking your avatar and username opens a menu with Profile, Settings, Notifications and Log Out. A badge on the menu shows how many unread notifications you have.
Your Profile
Your profile page lives at /users/<your username>. It shows:
Your avatar, when you joined, and when you were last seen.
Your universes, along with your role in each (Viewer, Author, Admin or Owner — see Permissions and Sharing).
Your recent edits — the last 15 items you've worked on.
Your items, with a see all link to the full list.
On your own profile, hover over your avatar to upload or change it (images must be under 1 MB), or click the delete icon to remove it. If you haven't uploaded an avatar, your Gravatar is used instead.
Contacts
Contacts let you keep track of the people you collaborate with. On the Contacts page you can:
Add someone by typing their username and clicking Add Contact. You can also click Add to contacts on their profile page.
See all your contacts under All, with Remove buttons.
See pending requests under Pending. Requests sent to you have Accept and Reject buttons; requests you've sent show as "Pending" until the other person responds.
Both sides receive a notification when a request is sent, accepted or rejected.
Settings
The Settings page has two tabs: Account and Notifications. Notification settings are covered in Home Page and Notifications.
Account Settings
Change Username — you can only change your username once every 30 days, so choose carefully!
Change Email — requires your password. Changing your email means your account has to be verified again.
Change Preferences — pick your preferred theme. This option is available for Beta Testers and Premium accounts; see Premium Universes.
Change Password — requires your old password.
Request Account Deletion — see below.
Deleting Your Account
To delete your account, enter your password under Request Account Deletion and click Delete Account. This sends a deletion request to the Archivium team; the page will show that your request is pending until it has been processed. If you change your mind before then, email [email protected].
Once processed, deletion cannot be undone:
All of your account information is deleted.
Universes where you are the only owner are deleted.
Universes that have at least one other owner or admin are kept, but scrubbed of data pointing to you. If needed, the highest-ranking remaining admin is promoted to owner.
All of your notes are deleted.
All of your comments are deleted.
